Audiovisual Perceptions of Infrastructural Space-Time: An informal workshop with filmmaker Peter Bo Rappmund

Please join PPEH postdoctoral fellow Ben Mendelsohn and students in his spring course, “Documentary Experiments in Urban Research,” for an informal conversation with artist and filmmaker Peter Bo Rappmund about his technical and aesthetic approach to site study and the audiovisual representation of infrastructural space-time.

Peter Bo Rappmund is a California-based filmmaker whose works take a phenomenological approach to studying contemporary infrastructural landscapes. Through meticulously sculpted compilations of location sound with still imagery captured at a variety of intervals, he has produced hyperrealist portraits of the Los Angeles River (Psychohydrography, 2010), the Trans Alaska Pipeline (Topophilia, 2015), and the U.S. - Mexico border (Tectonics, 2011). His newest project, Communion Los Angeles, is a collaboration with Adam R. Levine and will have its east coast premiere at MoMA’s Documentary Fortnight on February 23. His films have screened widely at international festivals and museums.
